By boat to Cananda (and some island hopping)

Making our way northwards we crossed the Saint Lawrence river by way of ferry, with a quick stop at Wolfe Island in the middle and finally landing at the charming little city of Kingston. While the ferry transports us to our destination, I feel my mind slip into memories of my youth and summertime on Cape Cod. Standing on the bow of the boat with the cool breeze off the water licking our legs and tickling our faces, I feel the excitement brewing. Here we are at the beginning of our week long adventure.

Been gone so long

I hardly know where to begin. So here...how about a random picture from last month? Spring comes along and suddenly I want to paint my whole house and make new curtains and get organized. My head begins bursting with possibilities until- of course- a healthy dose of realism reminds me that there still is just 24 hours in each day. To fulfill my urge for brightening things up inside, I tackled the bathroom. A lick of paint here and there and just one window to make curtains for (my stash of Sis Boom fabric came in handy). Ah, the smallest room in the house is just my speed right now.
I'll be back soon with some tales (or at least pictures) of our recent travels.

Creekside

Come warm weather, these are the spots I love to escape to. Following woodsy trails and coming up upon little hidden spots by the creek to find some calm, quiet and cool. The kids and I could spend hours here- climbing, splashing around (when it's not too cool), skipping stones, and just being mesmerized by the ever rushing water and the ancient crumbly stone walls.
These are the places- so abundant here- that I know I will miss deeply if the time comes for us to move away. For now, I'll just keep soaking in this place I love to call home.

May Day

Our violets are back. These simple lovelies spread through the yard in a most irresistible way- looking a bit like misty purple clouds among the grass. Almost enchanted. Somehow their arrival always surprises me and leaves me with the happy assurance of Summer. Ahh... looking forward to more days of warmth and sunshine.

Greening up

Dipping in.
Listening and watching for our feathered friends. We're all loving this book.
Outdoor snacking.
Have you ever seen
anything in your life
more wonderful
than the way the sun, every evening, relaxed and easy,
floats toward the horizon
and down into the clouds or the hills, or rumpled sea
and is gone-
and how it slides again
out of the morning blackness
every morning on the other side of the world
like a red flower
streaming upward on its heavenly oils
say, on a morning in early summer, at its perfect imperial distance-
and have you ever felt for anything
such wild love-
do you think there is anywhere, in any language,
a word billowing enough for the pleasure
that fills you, as the sun
reaches out as it warms you
as you stand there empty handed......................
